Started with the measurements for changing the .XML-file:
SANY0149.jpg
T-Motor AIR2213/920

SANY0150.jpg
T9545 prop

SANY0151.jpg
T-Motor CFK 11x3.7 prop - since the AIR2213 has a 6mm prop mount the standard pressure plates will not fit (center hole is 4mm) --> will mount the prop with 2 M3 screws

The current drive trains weight (one motor + prop + screws) is 85g. Using the AIRGEAR350 set (regardless of the prop) is 76g.
SANY0152.jpg
GLB alu arm with M2.5x6 screws + washers

A DJI nylon arm is 53g only.

Let's calculate the result:
save/add = 4x85g + 4x53g - (4x76g + 4x66g) = 340g + 212g - (304g + 264) = 552g - 568g
--> drive train + arm weight increases by 16g (compared to old config)

Well, as already mentioned, the total weight is above 1kg --> you will need a QUATOS hobby license anyhow when you want to fly such a craft with QUATOS. In case of PID the added weight doesn't matter.

ALU - the resurrection of nylon

Postby aBUGSworstnightmare » Sun Aug 16, 2015 8:35 am

Hey guys,
what's the evolution of nylon? .... Right! It's aluminium and carbon fibre!

I only wanted to build this craft as a demo jig for showing it's possible to use the M4 on soft frames too. Since I was quite impressed how well the craft flies with the old motors and the soft arms I was curious to see how it performs with better components.
Finished the re-build yesterday; now with a T-Motor AIRGEAR350 set and (optional) 11x3.7in CFK props. Just put all the pieces together to take some baby-pictures of her.
Will need to replace the LiPo connectors with XT60 types and then start the tuning sessions. I think this will take a while since I need to do some tuning runs (two different props at 3S and 4S, also want to do PID and QUATOS...).
Will also start to look for another landing gear solution. Just used the T-REX 500 since I got it on hands.
AUW with 2x 3S2700mAh 25C Lipos and Gopro is roughly 1490g.

Now it looks much more what the name says: SPIDER

... doing some modifications while waiting for better weather to fly it with 4S ...

Postby aBUGSworstnightmare » Sat Aug 29, 2015 8:12 pm

I feel the need ... the need for speed!

Was out today for some test flying of the new setup on 4S: NICE 8-) 8-) 8-)

Joerg

Your video is not ready for watching yet but I know it will be good.

I'd like to see the Parameter list if you would like to share it.

How to break a spiders legs ..

Postby aBUGSworstnightmare » Sat Sep 05, 2015 6:24 pm

Hey guys,
I fully recommend the AIRGEAR350 for it's affordable price and great performance.
BUT: Be careful with those 'self-tightening' props!!!!

This is what it look's like when such a prop decides to go in another direction than the craft needs to go. Prop of motor 2 (green line) came loose during fast forward flight, craft crashed, ripping of the spiders legs (great design DJI; they break as/where they should). No other damage visible so far although I need to remove the props and fire up the motors again ...

Joerg

Do you have a way to lock the props on the motors. If you have the ESC32 V3 in free wheel then when the motors brake you should expect the props to come loose.
DJI use prop locks on their Inspire one because they are using ESC with free wheel.
