due to some urgently needed spam counter measurements the forum will be down for an hour or so today.

Done.
The filters will need some fine tuning but I already have seen them crunching dozens of spam attempts.
There were massive attacks reported on many forums, which started in December. Hopefully the new mod will stop the spam wave so we can concentrate on "business as usual": supporting our users.
In a not so distant future we will need to upgrade to another version of phpBB3 and this will require a major overhaul.
Just sayin...
