Question about ESC placement.

Postby leopold1 » Fri Mar 01, 2013 6:20 pm

I received the Flyduino CP HL this week along with ESC's and motors.

But first I'm doing some research on this next project. I think I read from Jussi somewhere on rcgroups that he placed the ESC's under the motors. Resulting in maximum cooling and minimum interference. I've got the same setup on a Xaircraft X650 with good results.
I can see the advantages of placing the ESC near the motor but would like to see some examples how you guys mount a esc on the FCP HL motor mount. I think the big problem is the Cap.

This is what I did, not optimal but works pretty good...
Also "okay" protection in case of crash (proven to work!)
I am using 2* Caps...

When placing the ESCs all the way out by the motors, how do people handle routing the signal and power wires? Do you just run them parallel, next to each other, and/or do you separate them or shield the signal wire somehow to reduce inductance?

I can live with long power leads, adding caps if necessary, but running a long signal wire right next to the power lines has always bothered me.

Thanks,

Twisting the powerlines should resolve a large part of the interference.
Also adding a Ferrite core to the signal line should help.
