Kiss ESC and Quatos

Postby brat002 » Sun Sep 13, 2015 8:32 am

Hi all.
I want to try switch my viewtopic.php?f=40&t=4642#p34704 to quatos. I use Kiss ESC 18a v1.1 on this frame. Could anybody explain how to configure these ESC`s to use for Quatos? I need to flash special firmware into it? How?

This is how I'm doing it... don't know if it's going to work or not because this is first time I'm doing it.

1. Use Menno's firmware for HOTT. Choose what type of ESC you are using via MOT_ESC_TYPE in QGC. 0 = KISS, 1 = ESC32 and I believe 2 = on-board ESC.

2. Get thrust calculations. You will need a tachometer, thrust stand, and use QGC to generate steps of 100us of PWM. The way to do this is use MOT_ESC_CALI = 2. Then with battery already connected reboot your AQ. Upon boot up you'll see directions in the Communication Console. You'll also want to set your your MOT_MIN, MOT_MAX, MOT_START, and MOT_ARM values prior to running the measurements. Once done put in RPM values and thrust measured in grams in excel spreadsheet to calculate A1 and A2. I was able to do 9 measurements in total.

3. Do your airframe geometry. Create xml and upload it to drone controls website.

4. Use data from both calculations and input into QGC.

Voila!

The only thing missing is One Shot for the ESC. I've read that it doesn't make much of a difference with AQ though.

I could be missing details... hopefully others will chime in.

There are multiple problems with your .xml-file. I think you started with the wrong zero-point for z-axis.

I always start with top and bottom frame plate. Since the arms are on ZERO-Z both plates need to have the same z-axis offset (top has -z, bottom has +z)
1. Your top plate and your arms both have no z-axis offset --> that's not possible. Please fix this and add a comment like shown below. This will help others to understand what it should look like.
Code: Select all
<!--    Frame height needs to be considered for z-axis offeset calculations:
             Internal: 30mm
             External: 30mm + 2* 1.6mm = 33.2mm
-->

2. Your landing gear is protruding your lower frame plate --> ERROR since it needs to be below the frame plate --> fix z-axis offset

3.

4. Z-Axis offset of receiver wrong since it either needs to be above or below your warthox top frame plate

5. check this please
<arm>0.100</arm>

O.K. I've never used the distance commands since my frames are asymmetrical, but please let me know your la arm length. I have warthox plates on hands and will check if this is right

...
so, please fix this and come back here ;)
