appropriate ESC for Quatos?

The new control algorithm for AutoQuad flight controllers.

appropriate ESC for Quatos?

Postby jet » Sat Jun 06, 2015 7:01 am

Hi, all.
I tried to use Quatos for my AQ6.
However, I worried that my ESC cannot be used for Quatos.
So, how do I know whether or not my ESC is ready for Quatos?
I used Q-brain 25A 4-in-1 ESC now.
Thanks for help.

Quatos requires a closed-loop RPM control. It has been used with ESC32 and KISS ESCs on various reference builds.
It is not only the ESC that you need! You also need a exact thrust curve of your motor+propeller, mass and geometry of the craft.

As I know, BLHeli supports Closed Loop RPM. It is only one requirement to ESC to be used with quatos?

What else is needed is pointed out in the WIKI (i.e. thrust curve, craft geometry and mass, ..) http://autoquad.org/wiki/wiki/quatos-adaptive-control/
Some example XML-files can be found in this thread viewtopic.php?f=48&t=4456
It deals with a program that can be used to visualize the QUATOS XML-files --> good for failure analysis. There are several example file to start with (i.e. I've made some for my CamCruiser, Rachel, a RCtimer Spider, ..).

Yep, i did read this article earlier. My question only about esc`s. Any ESC with closed loop mode will work for quotos?

Theoretically yes, but not all protocols are supported.
I would use ESC32.

ESC32 does not supports 6s and release of new version with 6s support is unknown.

Look at this: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4344#p33176

Maybe you should get in touch with Jussi @ viacopter ...
