Hi Fred,
this one does the trick: cube names were unchanged!
Finished updating the M4Q300 quad .XML file with added FPV gear; will add a pic of the quad later to this post.

Gents

I think all orientation of the visualization is wrong.

Note the axis convention for quatosTool!
x-axis goes from back to front with front positive
y-axis goes from left to right with right positive.
http://autoquad.org/wiki/wiki/quatos-adaptive-control/quatos-airframe-geometry-and-mass-distribution/

This example should give a bar (5cmx5cmx500cm) from back to front, offset 30cm to the front.

Code: Select all
  <cube name="Orientation"    dimx="0.500" dimy="0.0500" dimz="0.050"   offsetx="0.3" offsety="0.000" offsetz="0.400" >1</cube>

Here is the result:

Hi Christof,

got the point, but can you please post the .XML file in total and also make a note on a reference point (i.e. add a small 1x1x1cm cube on y/z=0 and offsetx = +0.010 (so 10cm in front of COG, or i.e. between the two front motors).
I know from your XML file and the ClickQuad Videos that the picture shows the quad from behind --> +x is pointing away from me/single leg is aft of the craft.
Please upload the .wrl file too; will watch in in 3DTOOL to see the axis convention there.
Would be good if you could check with one of my examples (your Q300 quad).
The 3D tool shows +X right, but Y and Z axis were swapped. From the Quatos XML-file I would say it's o.K..
Reference point(s) in this example: FPV cam (gray cube in the red mounting) is in +X (in front of COG) and 5.8GX spiroflex (light blue cube above the craft) is aft (-X).

My wording was not correct.
The question is, in what orientation does Fred's tool display the Quatos XML data?
I think its displayed as a view from the left - looking along y axis, +to back.
I think it would be more clear if we could see the multi from the rear oriented in flight direction. That's how I interpreted it - and that's obviously wrong.

Hi Christof,
I think Fred's tool is working correctly. The question now is: how does the wrl-viewer (i.e. Orbisnap) interprets the axis!

As you can see it is different when using 3D Tool (maybe you want to take the free Trial http://www.3d-tool.com/ to compare) as when showing it in Orbisnap (don't even know if it shows the axis orientations).

Hi Joerg

I agree. But the orientation "uncertainty" may be very dangerous.

Fred, if you could add an orientation sign (e.g. arrow or such labeled FRONT) to the WRL would make it much safer to use the tool.

Hi Fred,
to help you with the .wrl axis orientation let me share a .wrl file of the LIDAR housing with you (saved with 3D tool --> you've used such a file too when dealing with the cube names).
