ZANO KickStarter project down the drain!

Postby kinderkram » Sat Dec 05, 2015 2:56 pm

Some guys already saw it coming and many with knowledge knew the bars where much too high on the ZANO autonomous mini drone: the CEO left the Torquing Group and the company is in liquidation after they funded ~3million dollars from over 12.000 backers. They completely failed!

Turned out that the main features they promoted simply don´t work as advertised in their promo vids:

Even worse: looks like the KS backers will lose most of the money they invested.
Go figure: TG spent nearly half a million dollars on wages for their team of ~ 10 guys. That makes an everage monthly wage of ~2000$ for 2 years!

Well,

The same thing happened here with Little Smart Things...it is in liquidation now, after spending the investors cash in 18 months, they had to realize that they couldnt generate enough revenue to keep the company going.

We where some that wondered how they could keep 15 employees and a expensive Carbon/Kevlar production going with just 1 product to back it all. Guess they couldnt....

"Founder and CEO Esben Nielsen was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year 2014 in Denmark."

Yah, right - that makes a difference. AQ hardware manager Jussi Hermansen only made it to the "Scape Goat of the Month" in late 2014.

As you know I work already 30 years doing developments in AIRBUS space bussines, and we do know what developments means in terms of costs and technical skill.

A project like AUTOQUAD is simply imposible to build up under comercial premisses because the non-recurring costs (the development phase) are simply enormous and even worst very difficult to predict. After the product is working (as it´s now in AQ) then maybe can go inside the market for production phase, if there´s a place for that product, of course.

The approach we have in AQ: small dev group, highly skilled, well organized and working almost for free it´s something very very difficult to repeat. Even for big companies (like mine) it´s very difficult to fight against this new model of bussines.

AIRBUS has just contracted to Paul Eremenko as CEO of Airbus Group Silicon Valley innovation center. He worked for Google R&D many years. Eremenko was named one of the Top-10 Tech Leaders of 2015 in USA. His main task is to fight against this new bussines approach that could disrupt an important bussiness line of a big company. That´s called "disruptive innovation".

We should very proud of our AQ project. It´s "rara avis" of the open developents well done in all aspects.
