m4 gps module dead?

Postby Davpep » Fri Apr 10, 2015 1:26 am

It looks like the GPS module on my first m4 v2 board has died. No position fix after 1 hour on either dipole or patch antennas.
I've tried the uBlox diagnostic program but don't have the required degree in electrical engineering to understand it. I was hoping it would come up with something like "ublox 8, firmware xxx, working/ not working" but is too complex for that.
Is there an easy way to check GPS function or, as last resort, can an external GPS unit be connected somehow?

If you connect your M4 to the QGC and goto the Data page and then click on "AQ Diagnostic Telemetry" you will be able to see how well you GPS is working when you click on Start Telemetry in the bottom left corner.

There is no easy way ( without tapping the ublox directly with usb/serial converter ) to use u-center and debug satellites without using Mavlink qtground?
With u-center we can have a lot more info than using mavlink variables.

Silly me, I didn't read carefully the wiki, with 1200 baud rate we can talk directly to the GPS using ucenter. :?
