M4 Showcases

Info and discussion about the autonomous Micro FC, suitable for nanos, micros and mini multirotors

One (M)4 all!

Always wanted to be able to swap your flight controller between different frames without ripping your craft apart?

Thanks to the M4's expansion ports this will be quite easy now:

M4 moved from the rOsewhite Rachel to my 'good old' test rig

Side view - keep in mind: this is a test rig --> metal standoffs instead of plastic (preferred!)

M4 uSD-BLSDC expansion board - this tiny board (or a similar one) will be needed for all your frames (in case you want to use the M4 with brushless DC motors), making it easy to use the M4. The uSD card stays on the frame --> load settings from card and go flying!

Good job, Joerg! 8-)

Will you be offering the expansion boards for sale - or what are your plans?

btw: how did you manage to fixate the metal standoffs on the warthox frame?
The screw part usually isn´t long enough to poke through the entire cp and arm material...

Nice one Joerg, very slick. Expander and "motherboard" all in one, nice idea. I like how you can keep the settings on a card with the frame.

My attempt for the M4 on an other frame.
The M4 has 4 onboard motor drivers, those are brushless and cant be used for normal esc's. So an extension board was made to use the M4 digital ports available on the 10 pins connectors.
The original motor drivers are now used for led signaling.

M4 comes with an 1Kg license for the Quatos adaptive controller (PID controller replacement). Quatos usually relies on an closed loop mode with the ESC's but with some changes and lots of testing it is possible to use it with fast esc's in open loop. The Kiss esc's are just perfect for this.

Using the extension board is ideal for swapping, only 2 small m2 bolts need to be removed and the M4 can be detached.

Maiden flight. No calibration, only tare. Using Quatos makes tuning so much simpler, maiden flight was obviously tuned for 'friendly' response..

Oh it's the Marcus :). In the vid just after the battery an oversized 25mm patch.
I have a 10mm too but the cable was to short, it's now lengthened so have to try it too and off course a simple dipol antenna too to try.
Yes, the thing is GREAT and fits perfectly within the quatos hobby license boundaries.
Yesterday I did fly it with 6x4 props, just enough clearance for the 6" and now it's insane! (For AQ based FC that is..)

Hi,

somebody out there who's able to generate Quatos params for MN2206-11 2000KV + T-Motor 6x2 CFK props for KISS ESC? Then we would have a second setup to show (since everything is lying on my desk :D ).

Hi Menno,

I have a HK FPV250 and those same motors and props. Could you post your parameter set for your build and I won't have to do the motor test.

Cheers
