MAG Magnitude between 3.3 and 3.4 It is a problem?

Postby leandrolb » Wed Nov 20, 2013 10:49 pm

I proceed with the calculations and the values for ACC magnitude are ok around 1.80 but Mag Magnitude are around 3.60 and 3.70. I did the dance a couple times (In 2 diferent places) and it is the second calculation and I get almost the same values for both. The board is level in the artificial horizon.
The MAG Magnitude so high can be a problem? I live in south of Brasil 900m above the sea. The Mag inclination is -36.5 and the mag declination is -19.7.
Should I try to make a flight? My hexacopter have 4KG with 25mm booms, I am using 6s 10000Mah.

Thank you for your help.

Hi guys,
I would like to register here that my Big Hexa is flying with Mag Magnitude at 3.3 - 3.4. I did a PID changes to make it flies I will post later my PID settings it is really diferent from the default.
I really don't want to do another calibration.
So I will try to do the PID fine tuning this weekend and I will try to post my results here.
I really would like to get an answer for my question about the Mag Magnitude numbers.

Did you miss the fact that you need to reverse the sign of your inclination?

Under this section in the Documentation

http://autoquad.org/wiki/wiki/autoquad- ... clination/

Magnetic Inclination and Declination

Inclination is always reversed in AQ, meaning that on the northern hemisphere number will always be negative in the defines and positive for the southern hemisphere. For the inclination value, always reverse of what the online tool comes up with for inclination.
For declination, use the same sign (negative or positive) as indicated in the online tool — do not reverse this.

I've found that if you need to adjust the PIDs then you likely have vibration problems. After you have your copter flying well you can adjust a few PIDs to get the AQ copter flying the way you like.

Hi Larry,
Yes I did reversed the signal for magnetic inclination that is not the problem.
I believe I have follow all the steps correctly.
You mean if I make a right calibration I will not have to change the PID to it fly correctly? Just for fine tune?

Yes that is the way it has worked for me and I think most of the people that have somewhat common multicopters. I know that's not the way it works with most flight controllers.
When I started using the AQ I wasted a lot of time playing with PIDs and crashing. When I was able to get the vibrations under control and went back to default PID my octo flew very well.

Hi Larry,
Have you fixed the problem you have discribed in the video? "Octo moves two meters sideways and one meter up & down."
Thank you,

Leonardo

thats the waypoints Larry was flying, not an issue or Problem.
