But yeah, those are really robust modems. Seppo who is the designer (and a Finnish guy too) he is a long term RF guy and he knows what he is doing.

Many times people just place components on PCBs according manufacturer basic proposals on datasheets and thats it...

Especially when playing with RF, you really need to know what you are doing. Seppo plays a lot with different type RF combinations to get best results on hes designs.

OT: Btw he has beautiful "hobby plane" called Antonov 2. He's father have another plane back in Finland and they are using that as Skydiving bus.. You know, One-Way-Ticket

Having spent a few thousand hours flying tail wheel aircraft including dropping many on that One-Way-Ticket [2 nearly didn't make it] that Antonov 2 sure looks like fun, reminds me of a Super Cub on steroids with an extra wing.

can you give a link for RFD radio's? I been using 3DR 433mhz with great success with MK. It's better than xbee. I prefer 433 rather than 900. I will give a RFD a try.

I am using the 433Mhz version of the 3DR radios.
There is a configuration utility available to set baudrate and other operating parameters like air rate etc.

Look for "3DR Radio Configurator" utility at .
Also you can supposedly configure them via a terminal app and AT commands.
