Confused about LED signaling options.

Id like to add some LED signaling to my AQ and I read the two entries in the wiki but Im a little confused. Id like to use smart LEDs and I currently have a jDrones IO Board but I dont use HoTT telemetry. Does the signaling code that was added to the AQ FW have the ability to control smart LEDS like the WS2812? If not, is the MAV2HOTT code incorporated in the AQ FW code already or is that something I need to compile?
