take a small board with OpenWRT
solder some wires and install some code
take the aq, esc32 and router get married via i2cbus,because the hardware is already ready

sometimes dreams become true

ok, i woke up.

but let's take this thread to share some detailed ideas.

- how to get the ser2net working with openwrt - ser2net.conf, or better the hole config, please?
- which camera on the router?
- because of the limited range of 802.11, connect an umts/lte stick to the router and use the web to communicate ?
- external antenna ideas? (i'm unfotunatelly not at home atm)
- the tpl-board should fit into the 45x45mm 'tower' in a copter when the power-mini-usb-port is removed.
- for i2c implementation i suggest the gpio pins originally used for the switch on mr3020
- maybe the button on the mr3020 can be used to change wlan mode from ap (outdoor flying) to client (indoor)

one more, for standalone testing,
soldered another 1-pin-head to the 3020 - now the board is powered by the 5v from a pwm header.

maybe a range test now

Yes, a antenna mod is possible, but on which device
Are you sure, your tablet has a good antenna
I think 100m-200m are possible.

Thx for digging into the matter, Lutz!

Though this might be a good and cheap solution for a mid range all-in-one system, Wifi suffers from 2 major problems: range & latency - and security if you use it as an AP in the air. Possible interferences with other 2,4GHz devices should also be considered...

I've already ordered the WR703N and will also test the MR3020. But they're pretty big and heavy.

What's needed is a small connector board where you can plug your video equipment in and connect it to the AQ.

Now that we have both the telemetry and the video downlink the next step could head towards an OSD.
Maybe someone can extract the telemetry data and sqeeze it into a video overlay?

Oh, I forgot to mention: it might be better to power the wifi board externally rather than through the FC. Especially when you use a webcam on the USB.
