Are you aware that you building a debug target and not a thumb release?

You will get the same error regardless of the selected target. But there's usually another message asking you to select the file Format (only once when you try to compile for the first time; will have to make a screenshot; maybe Bill has an idea which one to use).
Issue is on 3.2 and 3.3; not for <3.1.

Use 2.3 version.

I switched to Version 3.x, because I use a trail version of crossworks and it is not possible to get a trail licence for 2.3.
For the message, I choose UTF8 as file format. Is this really the problem?
