Correct, AQ will try to keep the best estimation, but if the GPS information is totally unreliable it will fall back to altitude hold (if you're in pos hold). So, absolute position is no longer possible and the AQ will start to drift.
All other modes are only available if the gpx fix is reliable so they also will fall back to the basics..

To be honest, I have never tested that, it is hard to do in real life. A teammember is working on an 'hardware in the loop' simulation where this kind of tests will be possible without even leaving the bench..

Thanks for the feedback joebar :) Good to know the AQ won't go belly up if GPS performance drops during a flight ;)

I should probably add a note :). Your AQ copter should fly and hover well without GPS, you really should test that.
Because of the sensor fusion with the gps estimates, some not optimal tuned copter get away with it flying in very good gps reception areas.
So, to be sure the lack or degradation of gps during a flight will not cause any problems; test it by just unplugging the antenna and fly. / alt hold..

Another question on failsafe if I may!

What should the failsafe on my Tx be set to? Hold the last known good positions? How does the AQ know if the R/C signal has been lost, if the Rx keeps outputting the last known good values?

Many thanks, David :)

Hi David,

You should specifically disable any failsafe features on your RC Tx/Rx. Otherwise AQ will not know that signal is lost. You should test this on the bench by turning off the Tx and making sure AQ Radio Quality reading goes to zero. AQ failsafe stage 1 should kick in after a couple of seconds, and stage 2 abt. 15 sec. after that. When you turn your Tx back on, radio quality should go back to 100 and AQ will announce that radio signal has been regained.

David

To test failsafe without taking the risk of flying I connect a voltage supply to just the AQ board by unplugging the two wires that supply current to the AQ from the flight battery and then connect power to the AQ board only with a second plug that is connect to a spare battery. With the AQ ARMED, when you turn off the TX you can hear the QGC say stage one and stage two.
