GPS: trying new baud rate

Postby LordPikaChu » Fri Oct 04, 2013 12:47 am

Hello,

my QGC keeps reporting the 'GPS: trying new baud rate' message every few seconds and the blue GPS LED is off all the time. What's the correct baud rate setting so that the board can communicate with the GPS chip? It's currently set to 203400.

I would appreciate any help!

Update - I've tried multiple baud rates and the only only that seems to be working is 9600. The 'GPS: trying new baud rate' message stopped appearing after that change and I can see the GPS reporting position that is somewhat correct.

The question is - isn't the 9600 baud rate too low? Why doesn't my board communicate with GPS chip at the default, 203400 baud rate? Is my GPS damaged? Or maybe there's something wrong with the antenna?

The uBlox GPS module defaults to 9600 baud upon cold startup. The system alternates between 9600 & 230400 looking for it to respond. If it catches it at 9600, it requests that it change to 230400.

Given this, you should not have to change anything from the default configuration in order for it to work.

Thanks for your reply, now I know what was wrong. The default baud rate was set to 203400 instead of 230400 and that's why the board couldn't communicate with GPS module. Why would the default baud rate be wrong? Are the boards configured manually before shipping? Anyway, I'm glad it works now. I was afraid that my board was damaged and that I would lose all my calibration data.
