Hi Tilman,

Yes, very much looking forward to checking out your machines, among other things!

Why do motor manufacturers always seem to cheap-out on the little washers and circlips? Drives me nuts. I think brass would be a good material for the washers (commonly used in bushings), but where to get something like that?

Hi Max,

I am not sure if they used aluminum washers due to commercial reasons. Once I had to exchange bearings I noticed that the shafts sit very tight in the rotors. You need to apply a lot of force to the shaft and suddenly it jumps 1/2mm in the rotor. Maybe they used soft aluminum to compensate a too strong play in the bearings.

But I also thought of brass or copper instead of this soft aluminum. I think the aluminum washers are too weak while steel would be too hard. Findung copper rings shouldn't be a problem since they are used as sealing rings in cars and other machines with channels for liquids. Another idea would be to get a matching brass tube and cut your own washers from it.
