ESC32 Installation Location

I am assembling an FCP-HL Quad with Tiger Motors and ESC32 upgraded for CAN support.

The Tiger motors have very long wires which will enable them to be routed inside the Carbon tube arms and connected to the ESCs mounted underneath the inner end of the arms. This would enable very short power leads to the ESCs and short CAN bus connections.

However I understand that for interference (with AQ6) avoidance purposes it may be better to mount the ESCs as far away as possible from it, so directly underneath the motors using longer (twisted) power connections and CAN bus wiring; is this correct?
I guess in this case I would cut the motor leads and solder them direct to the ESC32?

Many thanks

Edmund

Hi Edmund

There is no right or wrong. Both solutions have advantages and disadvantages.
Mounting the ESC's beneath the motors give them a good cooling, reduce EMI to the FC ect but the signal wires might get disturbed, you need extra capacitance due to long powerlines and the motors have to move more mass ect.
When mounting the ESC's on the centerplate, keep them away from the FC.

With the DIMU it is less critical to have the ESCs on the centerplate. The mags are not so important anymore for good performance with DIMU.
