Applying Power Incorrectly?

Postby psmitty7373 » Fri Jan 24, 2014 1:10 pm

What would the effect be if you inadvertently applied main power to an ESC32 with attached motor without first powering the logic side? For instance, if my logic side is powered by a 5V BEC and for whatever reason the BEC is not connected, yet I connect a main battery, what would happen?

What should happen is nothing. The gate drives have built in pull down resistors on the input lines. However, I'd not ever intentionally do this.

Never remove power from a running logic side as this may leave the gate lines in an unknown condition with the possibility for a dead short.

bn999,

Thanks for the reply. I understand the importance on the disconnection sequence, I just wanted to be clear and have some expectations on the connection sequence. I like to know if I need to be ready with a pair of wire cutters should all the connectors suddenly weld themselves together and I have a run-away prop or some other worst-case scenario.
