Running motor in reverse

Postby johnflux » Sun Dec 01, 2013 7:09 pm

Hi. Is there any way to change the motor direction on the fly? For example for a propeller in a boat to drive the boat backwards. Thanks.

John

The only ESC I know of that is made for reversing while the motor is turning is the Ultra ESC. You can buy them from a AutoQuad dealer Viacopter.

And it requires a special Mutiwii firmware for the NanoWii.
It also requires a complete new style of flying and a ton of spare props for the learning curve.

With some Kontronic ESC's you can do that.

...and all (?) car ESCs do that. No special firmwares, no gimmicks. I would believe some if not all marine ESCs do that, too.

It looks like a motor direction parameter was added to the software in the most recent update:
"Add new ESC32 parameters for CAN ID and motor direction"

Does anyone know if this allows for changing motor direction on the fly or if this functionality can be easily added?

Not on the fly, no. It's just a way to reverse the direction w/out switching wires. Keep in mind it requires ESC32 firmware which supports those functions, not just the latest QGC (those options become disabled when connected to an ESC which doesn't support them). Someone else would have to comment on the last part of your question... :)

Máx, i use to change the motor direction with qgc, but there is a small bug causing that change from fwd to reverse is ok but not possible the oposite.

True... though I thought it should save the value correctly (but it won't display it correctly, so it's hard to tell w/out checking via a terminal). I have a new QGC version about ready to go. Actually that Ubuntu build I uploaded already has the fix in it... you should try it ;)

New QGC version? :D

Did you think of my former request to display "radio quality" instead of CPU Load - which is actually the same as MCU Load?

This is the thing I´m missing most for a perfect Pilot´s Perspective (besides a proper GPS sats status display *cough cough*). ;)
Or ... make a tool wigdet from the "Radio Values" in the AQ main widget.
