Blown-up FET

Hi,
I just blew up FET on esc32. I found out that capacitor wasn't connected (broken leg).
Now I wonder if this could be the cause of the blown-up FET, or maybe it happened during a little harder landing?

I don't claim to fully understand the principle behind it, but I have blown up FETs before by not having a CAP.

P.S.
I found an info about Sinus ESCs (post about long wires ) - they apparently use sinusoidal commutation instead of trapezoid, and where tested with very long wires without CAPs! -

I probably found an explanation for blowing up FETs without a CAP. It is explained here:

CAPs reduce back-emf pulses - without a CAP they can exceed the FETs Voltage rating resulting in blown-up FET.
