Hi Larry,

Not it's intended purpose but I am going to try it someday in a 3D foamy with a variable pitch prop, I see no reason why it wouldn't work but the tuning of it might not be able to handle the huge load changes from flat pitch to max pitch. The motor I use is on my hexa so it might be a while

A variable load was never intended as the target application for the feature. However, with creative tuning of the P & I terms, it might be possible without code change.

Thanks for the great responses. A few people on other forums your building VPP quads and need ESC that can hold a constant RPM. One is using four motor and has mechanical connection to keep all the motors at the same RPM. Another is using one motor and gears and shafts. I think it's not very efficient or durable.

After 'current limiter' calibration MAX_CURRENT is set to 0.0, is it OK or and I need to set it back to XXamps ?

Set to zero, you will have no current limiting. You should set it to something reasonable or risk motor damage.

Yes, the calibration software temporarily sets the MAX_CURRENT parameter to 0 during the tests. This way it can see/control what is going on. However, this change is not written to flash. The next time the ESC is powered up, the original MAX_CURRENT value will be present.

ESC32's current limiter will never shut down the motor. It is designed as a true current governor not a failsafe trigger. If you do not limit the current, and you apply full throttle from a low throttle setpoint the ESC will dump all available power into the motor in a single step. Not many motors will take that well. Always use a reasonable (or even conservatively low) MAX_CURRENT setting.
