@jdmagoo, thanks for the link. I´m doing something similar to get a range from 10º to 90º about.

I´ve designed a better (and simpler) way of fixing to the motor mobile part. See images and video attached. The leg is fixed in three points (two in the axis and one in the front), so it keeps rock solid. The "U" shape plate is a simple small alu plate bended by hand. See it moving here:

But it is still a tad bit easier.

The motor weighs 135 g. The pipe clamps and connectors are also available from the 3D printer.

Hello guys!

This thread has been dead for some time now and I was wondering if anyone has modded AQ firmware to automatically lower the landing gear when failsafe is triggered or when the copter lands autonomously during mission flight.

I also have some concerns about landing legs vibrating when retracted due to their positioning directly below propellers. Does anyone have any input on this?

By the way, what servos do you use afernan?

In that post and images below is shown my present HEXA, with retractable legs that works very well. I´ve tried a lot of solutions for retractable legs, from complex mechanisms to this simple one and I kept this because the motors has a "current" protection system in case the motor is stoped in between the race (not an end position). This particularity permits to open only 60º (nominal is 90º from extreme to extreme) and maintain a certain force when in legs reach up position.

So, the design is done in such a way that when legs reach the upper position, that its not still the end of race, then it´s stoped against the HEXA arm, and then the internal protection system of the motor will cut the current in about 1second. So it acts as a real clamping system keeping the legs up WITH a force. This can´t be done with a standard servo system, unless you´ll burn it after a while.
