I/O protocols and what they're used for...

So being new to this hobby it can be a little daunting when trying to figure out what does what in terms of I/O on a FC. Just trying to wrap my head around this so I know what I need in order to build a project.

Analog vs. Digital connections. What are they?

PWM - pulse width modulation - can be used for... connecting an ESC which connects to a motor. Anything else?
CAN - a bus that allows you to connect a CAN based ESC or AQ PDB. Anything else?
GPIOs - not sure what they are used for?
i2c - what is it used for?
SPI - what is it used for?
UART - what is it used for? - Bluetooth telemetry module with Kissys expansion module.

Telemetry connections... Radio Recievers/Satellites, FPV TX/RX, etc.

That was a big help. Read up a bit on how serial communication works. Even so, it's a bit over my head. I suppose at least knowing what the interfaces/protocols are used for is a good first step.

Is it Ithacating in Ithaca yet? Went to school at IC. Miss the area. Haven't been up in years.

Uh, at the moment it is -2F, 10-20mph wind, with a "feels like" of -15 to -20F, depending on who you ask. Luckily it's not hailing also.
