I´m just testing a new prototipe composite material for 3D Printing, based in a matrix of a high-temperature PLA termoplastic and Carbon Fiber. I´m using my standard Prusa-i3 machine with 0.5mm nozle.
I´ve printed a set of parts (see image below) with very good results at first shot with the parameters recomended. Small changes wrt ABS printing process, even simpler.
Main advantage is the mechanical properties. In particular the strength is 220% higher than the standard ABS tipically used in 3DPrinting. The "specific strength" (or strength/density) is the same than a good aluminum of 200Mpa (aeronautical).
So, this is an important step forward in prototipe manufacturing based in Carbon Fiber composite, that is just starting with incredible results. I´ll bring some copter parts made in CF to Hannover to show all you.
