The bvlos research project (Free the Drones) that Viacopter is a partner in has a project part that aims to develop a longrange C2 (command and control) link that can be certified for BVLOS operations in seggregated airspace. This certainly means encryption an unique keys that cant be sniffed from the packets so easily.

Its hardly a surprise that a rc link that was developed for hobby use can be owned. And its probably not limited to DSMX, most likely all hobby rc systems can be owned by similar methods.
